The final committee text of the Corporate Due Diligence report from the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI), rapporteur Lara Wolters (S&D NL), is now out.The report consists of a motion for a European Parliament resolution and accompanying recommendations for drawing up a directive on corporate due diligence and corporate accountability.
Ms Wolters’s report was adopted by 21 votes in favour, one against and one abstention. It calls on the Commission to urgently present a law that ensures companies are held accountable and liable when they harm or contribute to harming human rights, the environment and good governance.
The due diligence legislation must also guarantee access to legal remedies for victims.The final text with all adopted compromises and amendments is now ready. It will become available to the European Parliament website in coming days, but here is a provisional version. The next and final step is that the report will be discussed and voted in plenary in March.
